This Little Racehorse Needs A Name
This filly is only eight days old and she's already practicing for her first race, running through the field as her mother sets the pace. She needs a name that reflects her winning potential and celebrates her Indian heritage, which includes one family member named Cherokee Baby. Any ideas for a name?

How about Cheyenne?
ReplyDeleteThat's cute. I'll pass that along.
ReplyDeleteI like the name Cheyenne but a I think a race horse needs a name that is more intimidating. I don't know if you listen to country music but Tim Mcgraw sings a song called 'Indian Outlaw,' I think that name would be neat. My sister also suggested the name Cherokee Winds, since it would follow the horses blood line.
ReplyDeleteWow! These are some great suggestions. This filly is brave and she runs fast as the wind beside her mother. She looks like a winner to me.
ReplyDeleteI always said the next animal I get I want to name it Kia. I dont know why exactly but I saw a movie with a girl with that name and liked it...but for an animal.
ReplyDeleteADSILA- Means to blossom
ReplyDeleteGALILAHI: Cherokee name meaning attractive."
HURIT: Algonquin name meaning beautiful."
geronimo! If she is a fast filly, this name will be a perfect fit.
ReplyDeleteWind Chaser or Promise are good horse names that I have heard of in the past. Also Wyanet, meaning beautiful, is a popular Native American name.
ReplyDeleteNamid-means Star Dancer and the mark on her head looks like a star a little
ReplyDeletei keep leaning towards something with radiant in the name.. maybe "swift radiance". I also like the idea of naming her a Cherokee name. I looked up "swift" and in Cherokee it is "Swiwiti" which i thought was cute because it sounds like sweetie.
ReplyDeletehmmmm this can be a difficult task. I searched horse names and there were a few good ones like Appaloa, Andrejana, Talzanna, Tequilla.
ReplyDeleteI think a horses name should always be more than one word. I have been to some horse races and usually they have names like running star or moon light and they usually have a meaning. I would name my philly something funny like Waste o' Munny. But thats just me.
ReplyDeleteGive the horse a mohawk and name it mohawk
ReplyDeleteI actually think Cheyenne is a good name as well!

ReplyDeleteI like Indian Outlaw.
ReplyDeleteI like the names Kiwidinok meaning of the wind or Catori meaning spirit.
ReplyDeleteIf the filly runs "fast as the wind," some Indian words for wind are "Notin" and "Tadewi." Maybe one of those would make a good name: the filly would certainly embody the meaning.
ReplyDeletei likeee induma-meaning moon.
ReplyDeleteshe can glide under the moonlight and the white mark on her forhead can be her symbol of limitless speed.
i also like jaya, meaning victory.
ReplyDeleteWell since you said she was young and shows promise how about:
ReplyDelete"Adhira" which means "quick, lightening" or
"Amita" which means "limitless, without boundries"
Hope you find a good name =]
I found a these online: Nina= strong, Aquene= peace, Nituna= daughter, or Flo= arrow.
ReplyDeleteHere is the website as well, it had hundreds of Native American names plus their meanings. I hope it helps!

What great ideas for names! Please keep them coming. I hope Heather picks one of them.
ReplyDeleteWhy not just leave it to the experts. The URL below is for the Native Languages of the Americas, a non-profit organization. You can donate $10 or offer to link to their site (on your blog perhaps)and they will suggest three Native American names according to your preferences. I was going to spring for the 10 bucks, but I didn't want to compromise my journalistic integrity. ;-)

Great idea! I kept my journalistic integrity intact as well by promising a link. Let's see what happens.
